As a child, I grew up reading lots of books. My mom would sit with my sister and me and read for hours. I always loved to write my name inside my favorite books and claim them as my own. Some of my favorite books were Corduroy, Little Bear, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. But as much as I loved reading as a child, I had never dreamed of becoming an author. That came about later in my life. Much later…
I was a wife and mother of three and our back porch had become the new playground for a stray cat and her kittens. One day as my family and I were sitting on our back porch watching the kittens play, my wonderful husband, Ricky, made a suggestion that would forever change my life. He looked at me and said “You should write a story about these kittens playing.” My kids loved the idea and so did I! The very next day I sat down and began writing a story about four little kittens and their mischief. Soon I discovered that writing was a passion I never knew I had before. And I never looked back. That was in 2005 and I’ve been writing ever since.
Today, my husband, Ricky and I run a bread route. Inside our bread truck, I have converted some space into my mobile office on wheels. I have a cubby stocked with books, magazines, paper, and pencils. I also carry a mini laptop with me for writing on the go.
We live in beautiful Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. We have three adult children, one adorable granddaughter, and an assortment of dogs, cats, and bunnies. When I am not busy writing or on the bread route I enjoy reading and spending time with my wonderful family.
My books include Race Car Dreams (Running Press Kids, 2016), Bulldozer Dreams (Running Press Kids, 2017), Fire Truck Dreams (Running Press Kids, 2018), The Sparrow and The Trees (Arbordale Publishing, 2015) and Rainy Day Picnic (Read Your Story, 2018).
I am the author of several children’s ebooks including The Orchard Grew All Around, Giraffes: World’s Tallest Animals, Let’s Hibernate, Waterfalls and Geometry, and Ten Different Habitats, Ten Different Families. I am also a contributor to Highlights High Five, Highlights Hello, The Mailbox, The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids, Stories for Children Magazine, and several puzzles and poems in various publications.
I am a member of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature.
